Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game launched July 23, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. Xbox Series X|S was delayed hours before launch to September 3, 2026. This page covers current platform status, unlock timing, and what each version includes.

Launch Date — July 23, 2026

The global launch occurred on Thursday, July 23, 2026. Steam unlocked first at 6:00 AM PT / 9:00 AM ET, followed by PlayStation 5 approximately one hour later. Nintendo Switch also launched the same day with the restrictions outlined below.

Platform Status at Launch

  • PlayStation 5: Full launch — Standard and Deluxe editions, all languages, cross-play with Steam, rollback netcode.
  • Steam (PC): Full launch — Standard and Deluxe editions, controller and fightstick support, Steam Deck compatible, cross-play with PS5.
  • Nintendo Switch: Standard Edition only. No cross-play, no Deluxe Edition, English-only localization at launch. Online play limited to Switch-vs-Switch matchmaking.
  • Xbox Series X|S: Delayed to September 3, 2026. Pre-orders remain active. Backend certification issue cited by developers.
  • Nintendo Switch 2: Planned for later in 2026 — digital and physical editions to be announced.

Cross-Play & Rollback Netcode

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game uses competitive rollback netcode for online ranked and casual modes. At launch, cross-play works between PlayStation 5 and Steam. Nintendo Switch players are isolated in a Switch-only matchmaking pool until Gameplay Group delivers a promised future update. Xbox cross-play will join PS5 and Steam when the Xbox version launches September 3.

Nintendo Switch Launch Limitations

Hours before launch, Gameplay Group announced three significant Switch restrictions. First, only the Standard Edition ($29.99) is available—Deluxe Edition and Year 1 Pass bundle are not sold on Switch at launch. Second, cross-play is disabled—Switch players can only match against other Switch users online. Third, only English localization is included; French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese support will arrive in a future update. The developer has committed to bringing Deluxe Edition, cross-play, and additional languages to Switch as soon as possible.

Xbox Series X|S Delay

On launch morning July 23, Gameplay Group posted that Xbox Series X|S would not release as planned due to "unforeseen circumstances on a backend feature." The new target is September 3, 2026. Existing Xbox pre-orders remain active and do not need to be resubmitted. The delay appears related to the same backend infrastructure that limited Switch cross-play at launch.
